About the Area:
Valun is a village on the Croatian island of Cres. The village of Valun was founded as a port of the now abandoned village of Bucov.
The village is famous as the location where one of the oldest Croatian Glagolitic inscriptions, called the Valun tablet, was found.
Cres is an Adriatic island in Croatia. it is one of the northern islands in the Kvarner Gulf and can be reached via Rijeka by cata maran (fast boat for passengers).
Cres has its own fresh water lake, which is very highly guarded and illegal to swim or fish in.
it supplies water to neighbouring Losinj as well. it is one of the deepest fresh water lakes in Eastern Europe, going down 76 meters at its deepest point.
The island has a relatively large breeding population of the endangered Eurasian griffon vulture, which can often be seen soaring over the island.
The average air temperature in summertime is 24 °C, the average summer sea temperature is a pleasant 25 °C. in the summer months the temperature can reach up to 35°C.
