Description
Marlborough House was the first Residential Villa to be constructed in the Old Steine in 1765, originally for Samual Shergold for the purpose of entertaining wealthy visitors to the city. It was then substantially remodelled and extended by the Architect Robert Adam into its current Neo-Classical style. It is the only building in Brighton to feature arched Serlian Windows. The property was used by the Board of Schools from the late 1800's and then as offices for Brighton council. It was briefly the tourist information office until the creation of the unitary authority of Brighton and Hove. Since then, it has been used sporadically as offices. This magnificent building is arranged over lower ground floor and 3 upper floors and provides a variety of different sized rooms on each level. The ground floor rooms are majestic in size and scale with ornate plasterwork and a 5 m internal height. The remainder of the building lends itself to a variety of potential uses including boutique hotel, aparthotel, high end restaurant / members club or a co working space. The existing forecourt area has the potential to be transformed into a lavish alfresco dining area as shown overleaf together with the relocation of the front wall of the forecourt as the ownership curtilage extends beyond the current boundary ( further details upon request)The plans overleaf show a members club concept, but existing use floor plans and boutique hotel concept floor plans are also available. The building is in a shell condition and will require fit out by the incoming occupier.
