About the Area:
Montevettolini is a fraction of Monsummano Terme in the province of Pistoia.
The village still consists today in the ancient fortress on the top of a hill, located at km 4.35 on the 436 state road towards Fucecchio .
The fortification spontaneously surrendered to Florence at the beginning of the 16th century and in 1597 Ferdinando i de 'Medici commissioned the construction of the Medici villa of Montevettolini, which incorporated the village.
The rustic farm-house, with a polygonal layout, was part of a vast reclaimed territory at the turn of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
in a lunette by Giusto Utens of the Museo di Firenze as it was (1599) we see the villa painted "with a bird's eye view", with the church of San Michele and Lorenzo next to it, with the bell tower that was once the door-tower of the fortress, still existing today.
Not far from the town is also the oratory of Santa Maria della Neve , with a valuable fifteenth-century fresco from the Pistoia school.
