La Cala is fantastic - especially July and August, where the central square is busy with stalls, and there's quite often entertainment. it's very safe, and has a very nice family-friendly feel, where kids and parents are usually in square until midnight. There are some really nice, pricier restaurants with great food, and some equally nice cheaper places for pizza etc. Biddy Mulligans is a great family-friendly pub. There are also plenty of traditional Spanish places too. There's loads to do for the kids in the surrounding area. Two go-karting tracks, the beach!, Dolphin-watching trips, fishing, Tivoli world (similar to Chessington world of adventures in the UK), Aquaparks and loads more. La Cala is a great fishing village that has developed into a tourist town, with mixed nationalities. it is not a late-night town particularly, but in the high season, you can usually find a busy bar at most hours. in low season, Olivia's is always busy at weekends. You can walk into the square or the road with the bars / restaurants within 5-7 minutes from our townhouse. There's also a large supermarket within a 4-5 minute walk of the house, and there is also a Lidl and Aldi in La Cala!
